I had imagined the cattle drive to be very energetic, with huge longhorn cattle moving quickly along the road, the cowboys around them urging them on and keeping them together, dust being thrown up etc etc. The reality, however, was a rather calm and gentle affair. The cowboys were in the formation seen here, although the Chuck Wagon was missing!
There were only about 15 or so longhorn cattle, and they walked slowly down the main street. There was no pushing and shoving, no entanglements of horns as they jostled for position, just quiet, gently plodding beasts making their way along the road which was lined on either side by crowds who had been told to stay right off the road, and on the kerb for their own safety.
After the cattle drive had finished we went to the pens, where the cattle were enjoying their reward after the rigours of the walk.
We were able to have a game of ‘Spot the Longhorn’!
Who do you think this is?
I think it’s Valentino.
And this one facing us?
I think it’s Colt .45.
Do you agree?
