On Tuesday evening Mr Decisive and I went to see a performance of Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake at Sadler’s Wells theatre in London. This is the show that our daughter is working on at the moment, as it tours the UK and abroad. It was fabulous, and very dramatic – the dancing, the acting.the costumes and the set are all superb. It is not the traditional version of the story, although it is danced to the Tchaikovsky music. Instead of the swans being danced by ballerinas in tutus, they are all men (but not in tutus!): powerful, athletic and quite often menacing.
I’ve seen it several times before: the first time was with my daughter when it was originally performed eighteen years ago, and it has remained one of my favourite ballets.
