Five Photos, Five Stories #2

I’ve been invited to take part in the “Five Photos, Five Stories” challenge by Jude of Travel Words. The challenge is quite simply to “post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or a short paragraph and each day nominate another blogger for the challenge”.

Here’s my second photo

shuttle launch

This slightly blurry photo was taken, using my trusty point-and-shoot camera at full zoom, on September 9th 2006 from Titusville Space View Park, Florida. The space shuttle Atlantis has just lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center, 15 miles away across the Indian River. I was on holiday in the area and was really pleased that the launch was delayed, because its original date meant that I would have missed it. We arrived very early in the Park to make sure we got a good spot, but we needn’t have worried because there was plenty of space for everyone. There was a wonderful carnival atmosphere and someone had set up a live audio feed so that we could hear the countdown. It was a great place to be to watch the launch, and the noise and rumbling vibrations as it lifted off are hard to explain – we weren’t so much watching a lift-off as feeling one.  I hadn’t expected that!

My nomination today is Sylvia at anotherdayinparadise.   There is no obligation to join in, it’s just if you fancy it.

  2. What a fantastic experience! 🙂 And photographic evidence too.
