I used to be indecisive…

…but now I'm not so sure

Friday letters – the day after the General Election edition

Dear news coverage,  It must be a very difficult job to talk about absolutely nothing for hours on end during the night as the results come in, particularly early on when there were very few results to analyse.  I marvelled at some of your ticker tape headlines… ‘Breaking News – Exit polls can sometimes be incorrect’.  How can that be breaking news?  Also, if they can sometimes be wrong (and spectacularly wrong relatively recently) why do you bother to do them?  Here we are in the middle of the morning and there is still lots of speculation going on, charts to be shown and discussed, pie charts in pretty colours, ‘experts’ and pundits discussing the what-ifs, and if onlys, everyone second guessing everything.  Watching it is exhausting, so actually producing the content must be even worse!

Dear Barcelona,  What a wonderful place you were for a long weekend’s break.  Hopefully I will find some time before too long to write a post or two about you.

Dear readers and fellow bloggers,  I must apologise for my absence at your blogs.  I’ll get round to catching up soon – I am not ignoring you, I promise.  My Inbox is bulging with notifications of posts – none of which I want to miss.

Dear ‘no cord’, easy touch window blinds,  You are a total mystery.  I have read instructions, I have looked at YouTube videos and I can still not get you to ‘open’ with a light touch on the two little plastic handles at the bottom.  Closing your slats, or putting you up or down I have mastered quite proficiently, but getting you to be down with the slats open seems to be beyond me.  What is the trick?

Dear baby bird,  It looked like you were enjoying the bird bath, and taking your instructions from your parent very seriously and having a good splash around.

  1. Wonderful, as always, and very well put about the news coverage. I don’t know how these news bods retain their enthusiasm after hours and hours of speculation and deliberation. It’s amazing that the journalists who were covering it all live still sound compos mentis today after that all-nighter. Looking forward to seeing your Barcelona pics anon.

  2. You have to wonder why they bother (the election broadcasters). Until we get proportional representation parliament is never going to reflect the wishes of the population who bother to vote. Where I live I had the choice of three candidates, none of whom bothered to contact me in any shape or form. Soo looking forward to your Barcelona posts 😀

    • If none of your local candidates bothered to contact you, you have to wonder just how interested they are in their job! We had deluges of paper through the door (several trees’ worth I think) and a few knocks at the door. Although we had five candidates standing this time we only got information from three of them – the three who thought they might be in with a chance!
Proper Barcelona posts will be along – the trouble is sorting out which photos to use!

  3. Here I don’t know what newscasters would talk about without Trump!

  4. Believe it or not, even our television news has been saturated with your election. It’s good to know what’s happening, but not as if that’s the only thing going on in the world. Like Jude, I’m looking forward to hearing all about Barcelona.

  5. Your letters are so funny! Totally agree with your election observations, and that’s the sweetest baby bird. I, too, have fondest memories of Barca. 🙂 🙂

  6. Barcelona is such an interesting place, isn’t it? And very photogenic. 🙂

  7. Elaine,
Mama bird is saying: “remember to wash behind your ears”! or something if the bird equivalent.

Now it's your turn
